This campaign proposes enjoying the combination of "Kinmugi" beer with local cuisine from various areas representing the Setouchi region, and in the Hiroshima area, tempura made with small sardines was suggested.
Mr. Kambara of Suntory Holdings Limited commented, "This is a suggestion to enjoy the combination of Setouchi fish tempura made with small sardines and Kinmugi beer. Hiroshima Prefecture is a treasure trove of fish, but this time we focused on small sardines, a symbol of early summer. We want to promote this as a new attraction of Hiroshima in collaboration with the A Taste of HIROSHIMA project."
The governor commented, "I am pleased that you have chosen Setouchi anchovies, which are not yet widely known throughout Japan, as a pairing for summer beer. Anchovies make up a large proportion of Hiroshima Prefecture's catch, and for people from Hiroshima, it is a familiar taste from childhood. They are rich in DHA and EPA and are a good food for food education. I hope that people all over the country will enjoy this seasonal taste unique to Hiroshima, as well as those who enjoy it at home."
The fishing season for small sardines opens on June 10th each year and continues for about two months until August.
In Hiroshima, sardines caught in the morning are sent from the market to stores the same day. Taking advantage of their exceptional freshness, they are eaten as sashimi or deep-fried whole.
Please take this opportunity to enjoy the seasonal flavors of the Setouchi region with Kinmugi beer! 😊
Let's eat more sardines, which are in season right now!
